In search of the 1st signs of Winter, the Cosmonaut crew heads to Big Bear Lake.
Perched along the lakeshore, rustique cabins add to the picturesque scenery.
Mornin'! After catching some Z's, a sunrise hike ensues.
With all of the other humans still sleeping, this furry fellow, Zero, kept the Spirit of Misadventure alive.
Is there anything more pure than the excitement of a pup experiencing snow for the 1st time?
As the storm rolls in over the lake, we begin our trek up to Caste Rock.
A window to another world. Blue skies quickly turn grey & temperatures dip below freezing.
As we near the top, signs of early Winter snow reveal themselves.
Without thumbs, climbing up Castle Rock proves to be a little harder for our furry friend. With a lil' push even Zero reached the pinnacle!
Finding our perch. Legend has it, a beautiful young girl sat atop Castle Rock each day waiting for the man she loved to return from the daily hunt.
One day he didn't return, something was horribly wrong. Grief-stricken, she stepped off the edge of Castle Rock to forever become one with the hunting ground & the man she loved.
As we continued to take in the view, snow began to fall....lots of it!
To avoid getting stranded on the top we began the climb back down.
The once bare trail we took up is now blanketed under a layer of snow.
The storm intensifies, temperatures continue to drop, and snow multiplies. In a matter of half an hour, Big Bear has been transformed into a Winter Wonderland.
With Castle Rock far behind us, we near the shores of Big Bear Lake.
En route to the marsh surrounding the shore.
While most of the town flocked indoors, we couldn't help but continue the misadventure. We had the whole place to ourselves & laid down the 1st snowy footprints along this bridge.
Frosty. The intensifying storm provided the perfect crash test for the new USA-made "UFO" beanie & "UFO" face-mask.
Close-up of the yellow "UFO" beanie.
Cabin life. After sufficiently exploring its time to dry off & warm our mittens next to the fire.
Well, that didn't last. Before long, we're back in the snow attempting some Night-light Sledding.
After a full night of snowfall morning offers Zero the play-time he so eagerly awaited.
Mountain Man. The "UFO" beanie coupled with the "UFO" face warmer was an equal match for this wintery world.
The "Do we really have to go?" moment. If anyone didn't want to leave the cabin, it was Zero. But, as they say, all good things must come to an end.
As we embark on the journey down the mountain, the temptation of a walk around the snow covered shoreline is too much to resist.
